#2.98 - Basta Ya

In 1996, after several decades of killings by ETA in Spain, there was a public demonstration against violence in which the crowd painted their hands white and held their palms up in front of themselves, accompanied by the slogan ¡Basta Ya! (literally ‘Enough Now!’).
Since then that image – a mass of white hands – has been a potent symbol of protest against violence.
