Missive #50 – El Camino Real

sent from: Mortimer Street, London, UK. destination: Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California, USA

The postcard reads:

While I maintain a mostly-secular life having avoided falling off the Catholic wagon, I remain fascinated by the California missions and the remnants of Spanish history they left in the USA. When I conceived of the idea of cycling from SF to LA [in 2006], I originally wanted to go via mission to mission, taking photos and recording impressions. Given the time available, I had to put those plans aside, but it remains a draw, to travel the Camino Real in California at a pace somewhat equivalent of an 18th and 19th century Californian. The world’s a big place.
