This is the most recent postcard so far, bought last Saturday at the Little Angel Theatre, a space dedicated to presenting puppetry and marionette theatre. We saw The Wild Night Of The Witches, the very first show they performed at the theatre 50 years ago in 1961. It was wonderful, performed by trainee marionettists and with the original audio track. The pace and tone of the show brought back happy memories of BBC children’s shows, and the lighting, performance and characterisations were rich, funny and spooky. When the Witches rode their broomsticks they sounded like motorbike engines revving up,their bums would twitch and protrude high into the air before they flew offstage. My favourite character was Mrs Itchweed, for her name as much as anything. They didn’t have a postcard for the show, but they did for Fantastic Mr Fox and it too looked like a wonderful show.
