This postcard, which I estimate I’ve had since the mid-90s, depicts the Phoenix pub at the end of the street where I grew up in Sunbury-on-Thames. I can’t remember ever going to the pub when I lived there. The last time I went in for a quiet drink with my brother, we narrowly avoided an all-out brawl, a true bar fight of the kind where one person throws a punch and before you know it [crash] everyone is [bang] breaking chairs and [wallop] pulling each other down, flailing.
