FIVE LESSONS FROM JERRY GOLDSMITH’S CAREER THAT MAKE ME A BETTER ARTIST
#5. KEEP LEARNING
Although he trained under composers from cinema’s golden age, Jerry embraced contemporary musical modes and technologies, being one of the first film music composers to integrate synths and other electronic modifications to traditional sounds into his musical palette from the 60s onwards. By his own admissions, by the 1980s he went a little OTT. But every decade he re-invented his sound, often paving the way for others. His Rambo scores were 80s action movie staples and his score to Basic Instinct set the template for every 90s thriller that follows. Like all great artists he still had more he wanted to do, and he never retired.
