In the ongoing tour of famous movie scene locations, surely the stairs at Chicago’s Union Station, where the shoot out/baby carriage scene in Brian de Palma’s ‘The Untouchables’ took place, must rank amongst the most famous. Sadly, the site isn’t crowded with film fans dropping wheeled objects down the stairs, reaching after them dramatically mouthing “MY SUUITCAAASE.” (my favourite parody of this was in Naked Gun 33 1/3 when a similar scene has a gardener reaching out yelling “MY LAWNMOWER!”). I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, it’s an old film now, and the high collateral damage sustained in the gunfight (passers-by, sailors, thankfully no baby) probably dissuades the city from putting a plaque at the site. No matter, I still remember it. No, wait, noooo.. my POSTCAAAAARRRRRRD….
