A few days into NaNoWriMo, and of course I’m behind. It’s not ‘official’ NaNoWriMo, it’s an informal group of friends at ILM who are writing scripts or, in my case, a novel, and trying to support and encourage each other. When we did it the first time in 2005 I started scribbling but within a week I found it impossible to sustain and I went off on an unsustainable tangent. This time I had a story outline written so I am trying to follow it, and it’s giving me good direction and focus. It’s too ambitious, however, my daily word count I need to hit is too high if I expect to do anything other than write. It’s ok, I am trying not to be too hard on myself about it. It’s mostly about getting it down on paper, draft v1, than I can see if there’s any gold nuggets in there worth keeping.
Did I mention I’m writing it longhand?
In our group we call it Bananowrimo. Here’s a sample of the notebook in which I’m writing.
