It’s hard to overstate the beauty of Iceland; look it’s a squad of Bjork flying over there; the sheep sit like maggots on the steep grassy mountainsides. The highlight has been sitting on Eyjafjallajökull, the volcano that erupted in 2010, on hot lava rocks red-rich with iron, steaming and sending sulphurus vapour across the land. The surrounding area are cooler lava fields, folded and bulbous ‘like melted chocolate’, says Maria.
