#280 – That Makes No Sense

#280 - Want To Hang Out Friday Night?

I’ve always had trouble maintaining relationships of any kind for any length of time with people who are outside of film production or those who don’t understand its uncertainties. For instance, a typical exchange might go like this:
THEM “Want to go out Friday night?”
ME: Yes! I’d love to.”
“Let’s see a movie – how about the one playing at 7.30pm?”

“Hmm, I don’t know if I’ll be done by then.”
“Ok how about dinner, I’ll book at table for 8.30 or 9pm”

“Well… I just don’t know”
“Why not? What’s happening?”

“Right now, nothing, but the director’s here Friday, and he may ask for stuff.”
“Ok, but what’s the big deal, you just finish it off on Monday, right?”

“No, see, they’ll want to see it again on Monday with all the changes.”
“.. all the changes you don’t know about yet.”

“That’s right”
“So what if he doesn’t need changes, you’ll be free right?”

“Not necessarily. See there’s rumours of a trailer that we may get Thursday, and that has to be turned around in about 5 days”
“How come you don’t know about it yet?”

“Cos they’re not done cutting it yet”
“And they expect you to drop everything to work on it?”

“Yeah”
“.. I think you just don’t want to see me.”

“No no, that’s not true, I do! I just can’t make any promises.”
“But why would they plan like this, it makes no sense.”

“Because no one says no to them, so they get used to making ridiculous demands, and then when you do deliver, they throw it out and start all over.”
“I think the person who’s sick here is you. BYE!”
