I don’t understand it when people talk about sleep like an abundant commodity – like it’s just there, in front of you, and you can choose to get it, or not, or get more when you need it. For me it’s always been a precious, rarely seen bird, a glimpse of an animal in the wild. If I’m lucky, I might get 5 or 6 hours uninterrupted, but once it’s gone it’s gone. The last few months, with the traveling, new beds, unusual sleeping arrangements, has been a particular challenge. Today, however, I return home to my bed, my love, and my cat.
